In one of Budapest’s most exciting and rapidly transforming areas, the Orczy District, we had the honor of being commissioned to design a dormitory accommodating nearly 300 students. Located between Korányi Sándor Street and Dugonics Street, in the immediate vicinity of Orczy Park and the Botanical Garden, the development takes advantage of the area’s unique characteristics. We envisioned a layout that creates value both for the residents and for the wider community.
A pedestrian passage running through the plot connects Dugonics Street with Orczy Park, enlivening the urban fabric by improving walkability and accessibility. The inner part of the block, left unbuilt, forms a large, continuous green space functioning as a recreational area. At its center, an amphitheater provides a venue for community gatherings and smaller events.
The delicate suspended bridge that links the two building wings serves not only as a functional connection but also as a visual screen between neighboring structures. The car-free courtyard ensures a calm environment for pedestrians and encourages active use of the green areas. Premium-quality materials and a refined architectural character align with the new educational and residential buildings emerging along the edge of Orczy Park, contributing to the district’s ongoing renewal and value enhancement.
It is a great privilege to take part in a large-scale development that will shape the character of the neighborhood for many years to come. Every aspect of the project—from its integration into the urban fabric to the design of community spaces—has been guided by the ambition to create meaningful, lasting value in the heart of the city. Opportunities like this are rare in an architect’s career: to realize a carefully considered vision across such a coherent and significant site.
